A number also have restaurants showcasing local produce. For more information visit the  <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tamarvalleywineroute.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tamar Valley Wine Route<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On the East Tamar<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Low Head<\/strong> is located 5 kilometres north-west of George Town. <br>It is a popular snorkel and scuba diving area during much of the year, with extensive wide, unspoiled beaches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/lighthouse-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-47\" width=\"225\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/lighthouse-1.jpg 450w, https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/lighthouse-1-245x300.jpg 245w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While in Low Head you can visit the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"lighthouse (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/lighthouses.org.au\/tas\/low-head-lighthouse\/\" target=\"_blank\">lighthouse<\/a>, established in 1833. If visiting on a Sunday at noon, you will hear the Chance Bros. &#8216;Type G&#8217; diaphone. It is the only operable foghorn of its type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can also visit the colony of fairy penguins with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Low Head Penguin Tours (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.penguintourstasmania.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Low Head Penguin Tours<\/a> who offer daily tours of an evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A little further down the road will bring you to the historic <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Low Head Pilot Station and Maritime Museum (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/museum.lowhead.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Low Head Pilot Station and Maritime Museum<\/a>.  It is  the oldest group of pilot buildings in Australia. The pilot service dates from  1805 and still operates from this site today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/800px-Watch-House-George-Town-20070421-009-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-52\" width=\"329\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/800px-Watch-House-George-Town-20070421-009-1.jpg 799w, https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/800px-Watch-House-George-Town-20070421-009-1-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/800px-Watch-House-George-Town-20070421-009-1-768x508.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 329px) 100vw, 329px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>George Town<\/strong> is Australia&#8217;s third oldest settlement after Sydney and Hobart and has a rich maritime past. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the main street you can find the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Watch House (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/georgetown.tas.gov.au\/george-town-watch-house-george-town\" target=\"_blank\">Watch House<\/a>, operating from a historic goal site. The Watch House contains many historical displays including a model village of early nineteenth century George Town.  <br><br>Be sure to visit the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/bassandflinders.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bass &amp; Flinders Cent<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/bassandflinders.org.au\/\">re<\/a> &#8211; the home of &#8220;The Norfolk&#8221;, the full sized replica of the ship that Bass and Flinders sailed from Sydney and around Tasmania in 1798. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">15 minutes North heading towards Launceston you will find <strong>Hillwood<\/strong>, home of  the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/hillwoodberryfarm.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hillwood Berry Farm.<\/a>  Spend a relaxing morning or afternoon picking your own strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and more.&nbsp; Enjoy a drink and some delicious local produce at the farm gate cafe, or pick up some of the freshest produce from local farms,  including Meander Valley Dairy, Southern Sky and Pyengana cheeses, as well as local wines. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/dunes.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55\" width=\"323\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/dunes.jpg 430w, https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/dunes-300x181.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 323px) 100vw, 323px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overlooking Anderson Bay, <strong>Bridport <\/strong>offers excellent river and sea fishing, bush walking and beach activities. <br>Australia&#8217;s top public golf course, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Barnbougle Dunes (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/barnbougle.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barnbougle Dunes<\/a>, and its neighbouring Lost Farm golf course are just east of Bridport and built on sand dunes to mirror the classic wild courses of Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At nearby <strong>Nabowla <\/strong>you&#8217;ll find <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Bridestowe Lavender Estate (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/bridestowelavender.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bridestowe Lavender Estate<\/a>, 260 acres of fragrant fields that bloom in December and January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On the West Tamar<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just a 10 minutes drive from the heart of Launceston, is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parks.tas.gov.au\/?base=1392\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tamar Island Wetlands<\/a> where you can walk&nbsp; through wetlands and across a river channel to the 7 hectare <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parks.tas.gov.au\/?base=4118\">Tamar Island<\/a>. For company you\u2019ll have pelicans, swans, cormorants and numerous other bird species as well as frogs, dragonflies and lizards. The wetlands centre has displays and information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Grindlewald.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-59\" width=\"215\" height=\"161\" srcset=\"https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Grindlewald.jpeg 800w, https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Grindlewald-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/georgetownit.com.au\/eastbeach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Grindlewald-768x576.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 215px) 100vw, 215px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discovertasmania.com.au\/attraction\/tamarvalleyresortgrindelwaldattraction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Swiss Village<\/a> at <strong>Grindelwald <\/strong>for a touch of Switzerland in Tasmania. Pop in for a bite to eat or visit the Chocolate shop for something sweet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further down the West Tamar Highway you will come to <strong>Brady&#8217;s Lookout<\/strong>. &nbsp;The Lookout offers beautiful views over the Tamar River and surrounding areas. There are excellent, fully accessible toilet and picnic facilities, including sheltered BBQs and a number of picnic tables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Exeter<\/strong> is home to the popular Exeter Bakery and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.honeytasmania.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Beehive<\/a>, which is worth a visit for all things honey, Tasmanian whisky and gin. Learn more about the town&#8217;s history and the events of the 2006 mine collapse at the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.beaconsfieldheritage.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In <strong>Beauty Point<\/strong> you will find plenty of dining options, while the waters of the Tamar River are ideal for kayaking, swimming and fishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can also visit a working seahorse farm at <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Seahorse World (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/seahorseworld.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Seahorse World<\/a> or spend some time watching live Tasmanian platypus and echidnas at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.platypushouse.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Platypus House (opens in a new tab)\">Platypus House<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Tamar Valley stretches 60km from Bass Strait to Launceston, intersected by the Tamar River.&nbsp; The Batman Bridge unites the two shores near Deviot.
